Recycle Ideas and Inspiration

I know many who are spreading awareness in recycling and doing their bit to save earth… and they have all inspired me to do my bit for our planet.  And I hope to pass the same values to my daughter… Kids these days are taught in school about sustainability and recycling which is brilliant as they shape our future leaders with responsibility towards our planet. Modern ideas help us to reuse and recycle old newspapers, wood, plastic and fabric.

I started collecting plastic containers and glass bottles to use as planters, storage and for décor…  So todays post is all about glass bottles and glass containers and how I recycle it…
I generally use recycled glass containers for storage. They are great to store pulses, spices, herbs, homemade pickle and chutney or fruit pulp. I also use them for packed lunches like layered salad.
And I use glass bottles as vase for home décor (especially coloured ones) or to store water, fresh juice or homemade wine. And as outdoor décor you can upcycle your glass bottles as candle holder for your garden or patio.

I would love to hear from you if you have more creative ideas and tips. I hope my tips has made you think twice before you throw away any glass jar and bottle away and help you simplify your recycling habits and inspire you to reduce your carbon footprint. I hope to bring more posts on recycling and if you have more ideas please email and I would love to share your ideas. Until next time Keep Calm and Recycle!!

Vibes and Cheer

It’s been a quick and tiring week that I could use some tea with love or a glass of wine, lots of music, a scented candle burning and snuggle with a book or watch TV. And at the same time I also wanted to bring in some autumn vibes in my home space even though we never experience it here in the Middle East. Cheers to the power of home décor and pretend the season is setting in!! So stay tuned for some autumn vignettes and vibes. Meanwhile I am leaving you with a little warmth through my pictures. Have a fabulous day everyone!

Do you have any simple autumn décor? Or have you made any changes in your décor lately? Please share if you have any, I would love to share it with my readers. Please email your pictures to tbinspirations@gmail.com .

Artist of the month - Ajit Thomas, an artist with perfectionism

Ajit Thomas, a practicing dentist to many… but to me, his family and many close friends, he is as an exceptionally talented artist that the world needs to know. His realistic portrait sketches are remarkably real. Each one of his work is a master piece highlighted with perfection and are detail intensive. He also juggles with clay modeling, cartooning and caricature. For Ajit, art is a family affair. He grew up watching his father’s creative art work and there was no turning back since then. Ajit kept his art inspiration alive while juggling with his profession. And now he has produced some brilliant portraits that the world needs to see. Let hear more from Ajit and view some of his spectacular work.
Ajit's latest portrait work

·         A brief about yourself
Saving the world from cavities is what I do to earn a living. I am a trained Dentist, all the way from India, working in the Middle East.

·         How did your journey as an artist begin? Did you have any formal training or is it self-taught?
I have been fascinated by art and craft from as early as I can remember. A fascination for colors started with my first Lyra 48 color pencil set that my father gifted me for topping in class when I was 8 years old.
My father was an exceptionally talented untrained artist, and unimaginably creative. It was watching the artist in him that set off my passion in art.
I have not had any formal training; it has been just observing and DIY all the way.

·         What is your medium for your art work? How would you describe your art style?
I have no idea about various art styles. I just enjoy doing whatever helps excite the senses.
I am into Pencil sketching, Water coloring, Clay modelling, Cartooning, and Caricaturing for quite some time now. Recently I tried a hand in color pencil portrait sketching. And when I liked what I saw, I decided to take it to the next level. Social media has been of great help in getting exposed to ‘detailing’ in art: and I must say there are a lot of incredible artists out there who do exceptional art work.

·         What's your inspiration for your art work?
Art runs in my family. And I am just an extension of the big tree. I hope to keep creating using whatever talents I have.  The genes seem to have passed on to my children too. Inspiring through art is the best inspiration!
Would like to mention an artist friend Hemanth, for inspiring me with his mind blowing portraits

·         What is the most challenging aspect about your work?
Detailing in portraits requires a lot of patience. Bringing life into the eyes of the subject and replicating skin tones are the toughest for me. Am I allowed to mention material costs here??? (Ofcourse! :D)

·         What is your creative process like? And what keeps you motivated?
The only time I have an artist’s block is when I am asleep. When you are into sketching portraits, you tend to observe every face you come across. So there never is a dearth of subjects and motivation to sketch. And if I ever get saturated sketching, it is then cartoon or caricature time. When creations strike a chord with people,  that is motivation enough!

·         Do you commission different projects? And how can people purchase your work?
Yes, I do accept commissioned projects which are requested either directly through social media or through friends and family. I have not ventured into selling my creations. But maybe I’ll break into the commercial scene someday.

·         What is your favorite art piece that you have done till date?
Difficult to pinpoint one particular favorite …but if you insist, the Dark Knight in modeling clay (A lot of work went into the detailing. I hope to one day convert that into a more durable material using 3D printing) and the Amitabh Bachchan portrait which I managed to get autographed by the great himself along with a small note of appreciation.

·         Any tips or words of wisdom to aspiring artists who want to pursue a similar career.
Yes……with great powers come great responsibilities!!!  No, just kidding…there are no definitions and destinations in art… it is what you see and pick up along the way that makes the ride enjoyable. Expose yourself to creations of both masters and amateurs. Learning is a continuous process…..take risks and experiment…, if you succeed, let the world know and if you fail, do not tell anyone …!

Thank you Ajit for sharing your work and your art journey with me and my readers. Looking forward to seeing more of your work and an exhibition in the near future.

Artist of the month: Kathryn Wilson

Art is such a beautiful and universal language that is understood by all. It is a perfect medium to stimulate creativity and promote culture and what better way to send out a message to the world through colours! Kathryn Wilson, a dubai based artist creates harmony using different hues of blues and white in her paintings. I was drawn towards her painting displayed at Sununu Muscat, while I was attending a workshop there. Her work is expressive, vibrant and there is tranquility reflecting in all her art pieces. Most of her art work displays a perfect balance of swirling motion, colour and light. And her love for the sea is reflected in most of her paintings.

Let’s browse through her work and hear more from Kathyrn about her journey with art.

A brief about yourself

Originally from the Lake District UK, I spent my childhood growing up in Dubai. In 1998 I returned to the Lake District to continue my studies before completing a degree in Fine Art at Oxford University. In 2005 I moved to South East Asia to travel and work for a couple of years. I began painting with oils during this time, returning to work and live in Dubai in 2008. In 2016 I had a solo exhibition with FN Designs Gallery in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai. My husband and I are now renovating our house in Kendal and have just had a baby girl.

How did your journey as an artist begin? Did you have any formal training or is it self taught?

Looking back I think I was first inspired by sketches & letters that my grandmother would post me. She always had a cellar full of paints, brushes and paper for my sisters and I to use when we would visit her each summer. My father loves photography and I would spend hours looking through his photo albums and slides. We used to joke about all the rocks and trees he would photograph, then I found myself doing the same! When I finished school I studied an Art Foundation and went on to complete a degree in Fine Art.

Clean lines and translucent layers of colour in a circular format have become my signature style, with a love for cyan, indigo, turquoise and pure white. I am interested in Art for positive change and continue to look for ways of advocating this.

How would you describe your art style? What's your inspiration for your art work?

My work focuses on the force and beauty of water, exploring the use of light in each abstract painting. The ultimate traveller, water plays a vital role in everyday life. It wanders the globe and without it we would not survive. Trips along the coast inspire me, as does exploring wadis that are so beautifully sculpted by water. Photography is a useful starting point but I believe imagination and interpretation are key. I like not knowing where I am going with the work, each painting presents fresh challenges and a new way of considering the subject.

What is the most challenging aspect about your work?

The greatest challenge is usually making a start to a painting. Once the ball is rolling things tend to flow quite smoothly from there.

What is your creative process like? and what keeps you motivated?

I keep an ongoing moleskin journal of notes and drawings. Visiting galleries, sketching, reading and taking photographs keeps me motivated. I stretch and prime my own canvases in a home studio, collecting new colours, materials and brushes to work with.

Do you commission different projects? And how can people purchase your paintings?

I usually sell my work via galleries, a selection of paintings & prints are currently available to buy in Dubai & Muscat. I do take on commissions if there is a synergy between what the client is looking for & the style / ethos of what I do. Examples of previous clients & collaborations are on www.ka8z.com

What is your favorite art piece that you have done till date?

‘Flow’ is a large circular oil painting (115cm wide) that I created for my solo exhibition ‘Saturate’ in 2016. It is probably my favourite because of it’s smooth layers & soothing colour palette. This piece signified a turning point for the collection and I hope to develop more work of this scale in the future.

Any tips or words of wisdom to aspiring artists who want to pursue a similar career?

Words of advice I would give to young aspiring artists would be to consider the authenticity of their work and their personal journey as an artist. Seek to learn ALL of the time and try not to be put off by disappointments along the way.

Thank you Kathryn Wilson for sharing your inspirational art journey with me and my readers!

How I keep my creative flame alive?

I am blessed to have set aside some time to keep my creative flame alive and people often ask me how do you do it? It’s not easy especially when you have to allocate time for yourself in your busy schedule…  I am a firm believer that there is inspiration everywhere…. It comes and goes and it exists everywhere you seek… And creativity happens only when there is some form of inspiration.

Here are some of my ways of keeping myself inspired…

1.       Nature espresso shot: Nature provides me instant inspiration like an espresso shot!  … Plants, flowers, birds make me appreciate the beauty around. We, me and my family, are blessed to have a small beautiful garden and every day, especially when the weather is good, it is mandatory that we sit out for some time and embrace nature’s beauty. It also helps us to achieve some family time.

2.        Journal: I keep a small journal where I write mundane things and draw and doodle…it’s my way of documenting my life… And it’s fun to look back at these pictures and notes…. It also helps me be grounded and grateful for everything.

3.       Books: Reading is another way of keeping my inspiration and creativity alive… I have books everywhere in my home, from my living room, kitchen and my night stand…. Even though I don’t get time always to read, just flipping through it makes me feel rejuvenated!

4.       Photography: Capturing memories through my camera lens is another way of journaling everything I do and I tend to lose myself in this art. And thank God for Instagram where you can share your daily journal and connect with people all over the world who share your love for creative art and other passions and thereby inspiring each other.

5.       Painting: To me blending and splashing colors on a blank canvas is therapeutic… it gives me a wave of stimulation and emotional energy.

6.       My blog: Through my blog I am so fortunate to have met virtually many artists who have inspired me and allowed me to soak up their creativity. Their journey has given me strength especially when I felt disconnected from everything around me. I guess the key is to allow yourself to open to inspiration and influences around you and have the courage to be creative.

7.       Digital Detox: To make myself a better me, I try to digitally detox from everything once in a while (which is rare!) even though I find it so hard especially when you are  digitally dependent!! The key is to set boundaries so that you strike a balance somewhere between your family, art and work.

I would love to hear from my readers on how you stay inspired to keep your creative flame alive…. It is a beautiful day here and I wish I could share this beautiful weather with you all… Nevertheless I wish each one of you a Happy and Blessed day!!!

Vignette Inspiration from my Home

Decorating your home with fresh flowers gives an instant make over by creating an oasis of comfort in your space. My chrysanthemums are blooming away making my garden so beautiful and I couldn’t help myself bring these beauties inside my sanctuary. Flowers are the key to any beautiful vignette because it creates the most impact while styling. I paired these gorgeous flowers with books to bring in character, a tealight holder to bring warmth, my favorite birdie to add charm and a little antique box to add glamour to the whole styling…. Voila!!! Enough to bring in a glow to my space…

What are some of your favorite elements in your arrangement? If you wish to share your favorite vignette or styling, please get in touch with me at tbinspirations@gmail.com

Bohemian Inspiration

I have revisited home tours that are bohemian in style for hours and got lost because this style of interiors always gives me a sense of comfort, serenity and character. It just brings on joy, warmth and sense of retreat. If you are unconventional and free spirited at heart then this is definitely your style. A bohemian home has a bit of eclectic, modern, colours, textures and patterns. It’s definitely an antidote to contemporary and minimalistic style!

I often wonder if this unconventional style is easy to adapt….For many this style may look chaotic, mismatched and too much to take in… but it is actually quite simple. Boho need not be a cluttered retro look… you can always achieve a Boho-minimalistic interiors which will equally give you a sense of cozy retreat.

Here are some tips to achieve this diverse and carefree style

Colour Burst – A Boho inspired room is all about colours and different hues.  Different colours are injected to a room through tapestries, rugs, curtains and piles of pillows. And strangely there is a sense of harmony when things don’t match is put together.
Furniture – Furniture pieces that ooze comfort like upholstered furniture, cozy armchairs, Ottomans, leather sofas and low coffee tables are common in most bohemian inspired rooms.

Accessories – Display of travel souvenirs, use of lanterns, candles, chandeliers, huge mirrors and old photographs in beautiful frames gives an exotic and vintage touch to Bohemian style room. Even a pile of books make a good accent and character to a boho-styled room.
Splash of Greenery – Abundance of plants is another common aspect for this diverse styled room. What better way to add life to a room!

Enjoy some of my handpicked Bohemian inspired spaces that express individuality!
